Major placements include the Today Show, Early Show, USA Today, and Associated Press, all for the online university's graduation ceremonies in July - after all major coverage of college commencements was over -- and in 117-degree heat. By differentiating the online university from competitors and delivering its messages to core constituents on a proactive and consistent basis, helped to build the institution's reputation as a premier educational resource targeted to the working adult learner.
As a result of persistence and expert pitching, the university and its leadership have been covered extensively in business, consumer, print and broadcast media, including US News and World Report, Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. Messages to potential students and faculty of nursing, technology, education and management programs have been widely disseminated in vertical industry press outlets.
L’Oréal USA
Managed the account for GolinHarris supervising media outreach for L’Oréal’s Women in Science program; its Diversity Program; and its eStrat Challenge -- all designed to showcase the company as a desirable workplace to attract the best and brightest to the firm. As media strategist, we worked with national universities and media to gain visibility for the educational and support initiatives for women and minorities through its outstanding college competitions and scholarship upport for female scientists worldwide.
- Results: Promotional pieces ran in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Newsday, New York Sun, CUNY-TV, Metro New York, AM-NY, CMO Magazine, Fast Company, Diversity Magazine, Black Issues in Higher Education, and others.
St. John's University, NY
For more than 20 years, led the news bureau of one of the largest Catholic universities in the U.S., working with all colleges and divisions. Developed publicity and marketing plans. Handled crisis management with senior administrators, including the President. Generated positive academic visibility for the University that was measured by ever-increasing enrollment. Positioned students and faculty for interviews with all levels of media, including the major dailies: The New York Times, Newsday, Daily News, NY Post and the Catholic press.
Coordinated Queens - People and Places photography contest, creating an exhibition that toured New York City and JFK and LaGuardia airports and generated 2 years of favorable publicity for the University.
Worked with business, law, science, medical, education reporters, producers, and editors to garner major publicity for the university; its programs; and people. Lobbied at both city and state levels. Crafted media resources directory, a resource for media used to tap St. John's faculty and administrators as experts for their fast-breaking stories.
Provided public affairs leadership and with numerous non-profit organizations through volunteer work as a valuable member of non-profit boards. Led the Queens Tobacco Control Task Force as a board member of the American Cancer Society, lobbying at City Hall and Albany to create smokefree restaurants and workplaces.
Served as President of New York Women in Communications. Founded the organization’s College Career Conference – an all day event that distributes thousands of dollars in scholarships for college women who seek careers in communications.
